Visual Effects

Six product families spanning tracking, rotoscoping, clean-up, effects and particles. All of them plug into the editing and compositing software already in use, and several also run as standalone applications.

Start from the task at hand: tracking a shot, cutting a matte, removing an element, adding graphics. Then comes the host platform, which is part of the ordering reference itself. An Avid house and a DaVinci Resolve house order different licences for the same product.

The models

Sapphire

For editors, colourists and motion designers who need cinema-grade effects and transitions without leaving their editing software.

  • Lighting effects, blurs, film looks, distortions and transitions, GPU-accelerated through CUDA, HIP and Metal
  • Effect and Transition Builder for assembling custom looks
  • Adobe, Avid, DaVinci Resolve, Nuke, Flame, Fusion and Vegas Pro
Explore Sapphire

Continuum

For teams that need broad coverage rather than one specialised tool: titling, keying, image restoration and particles in a single set.

  • Title Studio for 2D and 3D titling, Primatte Studio for green screen keying
  • Image restoration and Particle Illusion built into the suite
  • Adobe, Avid, DaVinci Resolve, Nuke, Vegas Pro, Final Cut Pro and Motion
Explore Continuum

Mocha Pro

For post-production teams that need to speed up tracking, screen replacement, clean-up and rotoscoping.

  • Planar tracking plus PowerMesh for warped and organic surfaces
  • Object removal module, stabilisation and lens calibration
  • Adobe, Avid and OFX plug-in, or standalone on macOS, Windows and Linux

The plug-in on its own and the version bundling the standalone app are two separate references.

Explore Mocha Pro

Silhouette

For studios whose roto and paint workload justifies a dedicated seat rather than a plug-in inside the edit.

  • Rotoscoping, paint and node-based compositing across 400+ nodes
  • Machine-learning assistance: Mask ML, Head Track ML and Matte Assist ML
  • Standalone on macOS, Windows and Linux, or a plug-in for After Effects, Premiere Pro, Nuke, Fusion, Resolve and Flame

The plug-in on its own and the version bundling the standalone app are two separate references.

Explore Silhouette

SynthEyes

For artists locking a 3D element to live-action footage: camera solving, matchmoving and object tracking.

  • Lens calibration covering anamorphic, fisheye and 360° optics
  • Exports to Blender, Houdini, Maya, Cinema 4D, 3ds Max, Nuke, After Effects, Fusion and Flame, plus USD
  • Standalone application, no host software required
Explore SynthEyes

Particle Illusion Pro

For graphics and generative effects such as smoke, sparks and debris, without bringing in a full 3D engine.

  • 2D and 3D emitter library, as a standalone application
  • The particle engine is also built into Continuum

The only family in the catalogue offered on subscription only, with no perpetual licence.

Key strengths

Standout feature

Plug-ins fit the existing pipeline

Adobe, Avid, OFX and Final Cut are supported depending on the product. Nothing new joins the pipeline, and no intermediate exchange format is needed between workstations.

Standalone when the workload calls for it

Mocha Pro, Silhouette and SynthEyes also ship as standalone applications on macOS, Windows and Linux, which suits a dedicated tracking or roto seat kept separate from the edit bay.

The host platform is part of the SKU

Sapphire, Continuum, Mocha Pro and Silhouette are ordered per platform, or as a multi-platform reference. That scope is settled at order time, not afterwards.

All six products in this range are part of Boris FX Suite. On a workstation running more than two of them, the bundle question comes before the product question.
